Mr. Warwick Purser (center) with Mr. Gilberto Mayen (left)
and Mr. Agus Burhan (right), cut the ribbon.
This event tonight has a double significance. Not only does it present the works of one of Mexico’s most famous artists, Oscar Gutman it also celebrates 60 years of bilateral relationship between Indonesia and Mexico.

What better way to celebrate the anniversary of this relationship than by bringing to Yogyakarta, Indonesia’s art capital, the work of one of Mexicans leading artists. I should add this exhibition is only coming to Yogyakarta and to nowhere else in Indonesia. This alone is an expression of how much Mexico values its relationship with this city. Mexico’s relationship with Yogyakarta actually focuses on cultural exchange, a better appreciation of the culture of each place. In many ways there is a similarly between the two entities the cultural background, food, the art and the history. A great expression of the cultural ties between our two countries will also be demonstrated here tonight with a Mexican student studying music here in Java playing the Javanese gamelan. A wonderful blend of Mexican talent expressed on something so traditionally Javanese. This is a great example of the interest the young people of Mexico have in the culture of this country. This is the some part of Mr. Warwick’s speech.
