Honorary Consulate is one of media for another country in
international environment to promote their culture or their country. Honorary Consulate
also one of the ways to make cooperation with another country beside from
Embassy that opened in another country. Usually, the country that wants to made
cooperation they will open the Honorary Consulate first than Embassy. It because
of the Honorary Consulate has another destination than political sides.
Honorary Consulate usually has destination to made cooperation in culture,
trading, economic, art, and education focus, or another destination. That is
the reason why sometime there are country has Honorary Consulate but have no
Embassy in the same country.
Indonesia and Mexico has cooperation since 1953. Mexico has
Embassy in Indonesia and the Ambassador is H.E. Melba Pria. Not only has
Embassy in Indonesia, Mexico also has Honorary Consulate. The Honorary
Consulate of Mexico took place in Yogyakarta, with Mr. Warwick Rodney Purser as
Honorary Consul.
Yogyakarta chosen by Mexico Government because of Yogyakarta
is the cultural and tourism city. Yogyakarta has so many cultural villages or
tourism village. Yogyakarta also famous to be education city, and there are so
many education institutions in this city.
Honorary Consulate of Mexico in Yogyakarta opened on 21
February 2011, and legalized by Ambassador of Mexico in Indonesia, H.E. Melba
Pria. General Director for American and European Ministry of Foreign Affairs of
Indonesia Republic, Mrs. Retno Marsudi also attended this moment in d’Omah
Hotel, Parangtritis Street Km 8.5 Tembi, Timbulharjo, Sewon, Bantul,
Yogyakarta.
Honorary Consulate of Mexico has cooperation with another institution. The examples for cooperation are social cooperation, cultural cooperation, and educational cooperation. For example of educational cooperation, Honorary Consulate of Mexico also opens internship program for student who wants to study more about diplomatic and consulate.
